Laura's Loop: Color Tipped Scarf

Come fall, I just know I will be that fumbling girl on the sidewalk, bag falling off my shoulder and coffee spilling on innocent passersby, as I gracelessly reach around for my trailing scarf… which has come unwrapped… again. Fess up! I know I’m not alone in this. I see fellow strugglers, cluelessly strutting about with their scarves dragging behind, picking up all the wonders of the city’s floor.

There is a science to securing a scarf. With neat triangular ends and a gently gripping garter stitch texture, this dapper Color Tipped Scarf longs to hold tight and budge-free! And not incidentally, the bright pointy tips provide a delightful pop of color, saving us all from too scientific an approach to scarf design!

Knit up in Purl Soho’s new Worsted Twist, the Color Tipped Scarf is fantastically soft, hearty, and beautifully simple. You can buy all the yarn you’ll need with our Yarn for Color Tipped Scarf kit. One kit makes one adult scarf OR two kids’ scarves. It’s available in three pretty colorways, or create your own from our full palette of colors right here. Here’s to a fumble-free fall, enjoy! -Laura

New! Purl Soho's Worsted Twist

Our budding collection of Purl Soho yarn is growing... Introducing our latest inspiration, Worsted Twist! Worsted Twist pays homage to a classic 2 ply farm yarn with its straightforward earthiness and deep sophistication. Spun in one hundred percent of the softest merino wool you can imagine, our newest yarn is so fresh and simple that all of our fall ideas start here!

Its smooth finish makes Worsted Twist a fabulous choice for interesting stitch patterns, and its amazing softness makes it just right for everything that you wear close: cowls, scarves, hats, mittens, sweaters, and blankets. Choose from a palette of moody blues and evocative neutrals, animated by pops of our favorite brights.

Worsted Twist's timeless look and toasty touch reminded us immediately of our favorite sweater from college. Remember it? The one that kept you cozy at bonfires and football games, on autumn walks and winter adventures? The Purl Soho Pullover is that sweater... only better: classic, comfy and totally beautiful!

With ingenious shoulder shaping and simple design details, The Purl Soho Pullover is a super fun and quick knit. Joelle actually whipped up the prototype in one trans-Atlantic flight! It is knit in one easy piece and is sized for everyone with sizes Child's 2 (4, 6, 8, 10, 12/Women's XS, S, M, L/Men's S, Women's 1XL/Men's M, Women's 2XL/Men's L). Laura's Loop: The Sweatshirt Sweater

I grew up wearing a school uniform, which, for me, turns out to be a hard habit to kick. Some people seem to totally reject their childhoods of forced attire, opting for recklessly eclectic wardrobes. But I can't fight it; I'm a uniform kid, through and through.

I am sure you'll be relieved to read I am no longer sporting ill-fitting plaid jumpers, but there is rarely a day that goes by that I'm not in my own personal uniform. Lately, it's been dark-wash Levi's paired with some form of a baseball T or an athletic-gray sweatshirt. Naturally, I need handknit interpretations of these basics! I accomplished the first this past autumn when I stitched up the Everyday Linen Raglan. And now, I'm happy to add a thicker, cozier, woolier version to my collection... the Sweatshirt Sweater!
The Sweatshirt Sweater is my new go-to garb, spacious enough for underlayers and soft enough to go without. It's knit in Swans Island 100% organic merino, a beautiful light worsted yarn that evokes a natural refinement. I'll be in this uniform for these last snowy days of March, all the way through the crisp nights of spring!
Spoiler alert: as the seasons change, so does my uniform, so keep your eye out for some more knit basics in the months to come!

Whit's Knits: Cozy Ear Flap Hat

No one's fond of cold ears and we're all pretty averse to icy wind blowing down their canals. So, here is a hat designed to protect these most vital appendages.

And you know that swathe at the back of your head that gets ignored by both hat and scarf? This hat covers that too! These are important practical issues but certainly not excuses to be uncute. In fact, these concerns for warmth and comfort may have inspired our sassiest hat yet!

For toastiness and style I turned to Purl Soho's Super Soft Merino. This is one yarn you'll welcome right up against your ears. Itch-free and wonderfully sumptuous, it also happens to make the best pom poms ever. So don't leave the top of your Cozy Ear Flap Hat out in the cold!

Make your ears happy!

Laura's Loop: Classic Mittens

Whitney made some. Molly too. And so I had no choice but to join in and make some of my very own wintertime mittens!

Being the last of three kids in my family, I might have a teeny, tiny bit of youngest-child syndrome. Some might even call it a fear of missing out (#FOMO). So after drooling over Whitney's elegant Gem Gloves and having a mom and daughter sew-along for Molly's Simple Felted Wool Mittens, I picked up some of Anzula's wonderfully bouncy, incredibly warm merino-cashmere Cricket and cast on.

With a hearty slip-stitch at the hemmed cuff and a perfectly rounded top, these Classic Mittens hark back to childhood days of bundling up at my mom's insistence, so anxious to slip out the door and chase after my big brothers.

Just as I used to run after my brothers, my creative eye is now on Whitney and Molly who have me inspired once more. Feel like tagging along? Get started! - Laura
