Corinne's Thread: Wear Anywhere Tunic

The Wear Anywhere Tunic is true to its name: comfortable enough to wear lounging at the beach, stylish enough to sport on the sidewalks of New York City, and so surprisingly flattering that it’s even perfect for a dinner out.  We tested our versatility theory with three versions in three different fabrics and two different necklines. Yup, it’s definitely the Wear Anywhere Tunic!
In Robert Kaufman’s Organic Voile, this Tunic is the ultimate pullover for the beach or pool. The sheer fabric is light and breezy, and the neon stitching shines like the sun itself. This version just begs to be worn with a big, floppy sunhat and a drink in hand, preferably something in a coconut!
In Robert Kaufman’s Chambray Union, the Wear Anywhere Tunic is just right for the city: comfortable, versatile and chic. For this version, added stitching at the bust and back provide shape and coverage, and for all three tunics, waist ties give a just-right-for-you fit.
Liberty of London’s Tana Lawn in the elegant Lodden print lends a dreamy touch. Delicate loops of flowering vines make me think of backyard gardens overflowing with summer’s abundance and stately country homes. I can’t wait to wear this dress amongst flowers and friends at a garden wedding later this month!
Made from just a handful of easy-to-cut rectangles and straight seams, the Wear Anywhere Tunic is as easy to sew as it is to wear. So, make one for your date tonight, your beach excursion this weekend and next week’s barbeque with friends… wherever your summer plans take you! -Corinne

Molly's Sketchbook: Railroad Tote

I recently had a run of bad bag luck. I had a leather purse that I loved, but it was destroyed when a bottle of water opened up inside of it. Then the pretty tote bag I used as a replacement ripped, leaving me completely bagless, disheartened and uninspired. Then one day as I was sitting by my sewing machine, I caught a glimpse out of the corner of my eye of some Railroad Denim fabric and eureka! With its sturdy weight and classic stripe, I knew I could make a winning bag that I’d be excited to carry!

A mere hour after my initial inspiration, I was tossing my wallet, lip gloss and keys into my beautiful new Railroad Tote, and my bag woes were a distant memory! I was so happy with how this tote turned out that I quickly made another using double-sided Black Washed 8 oz Denim. Both versions are hearty and strong and will stand up to washing and water bottle mishaps while still looking cute.

So if you’ve been having some bad bag luck yourself, or if you just need something fresh for summer, this project is for you. Make your own luck! -Molly

Molly's Sketchbook: Waffle and Linen Hand Towels

The beauty of these Waffle and Linen Hand Towels belies how super quick they are to make. It turns out that in the time it would take you to go to the store and pick something from a wedding registry you can handcraft a truly lovely gift… but nobody has to know that!  Bespoke objects are always more special than a blender, no matter the time (or lack thereof!) that they take to create!

Simple patterns like this call for spectacular fabric, and our Waffle and Linen Hand Towels deliver. We paired Robert Kaufman’s soft and absorbent Baby Waffle Pique with Globalweave’s elegant Duo Woven Linen to create a unique juxtaposition of cuddly and cultivated. One bumpy and one smooth, these two fabrics are made for each other!

I can’t think of simpler way to give such a unique and thoughtful gift. If you’ve got a wedding (or housewarming) coming up, these Waffle and Linen Hand Towels might be just the thing! -Molly

Molly's Sketchbook: Drawstring Shoe Bags

I’m only 35, but I’ve already compiled a to-do list for my retirement: I’m going to get a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, bake bread and see the world. While I’m busy planning, my parents are actually living the retirement dream. My mom has opened a pottery studio and my dad has started making digital movies, but mostly, they travel, exploring all the wonderful places on their to-do list.

Before his retirement I could always make my dad a tie but these days he doesn’t have much use for formal stuff like that. So, for my dad’s new globetrotting lifestyle, I’m celebrating this Father’s Day with these super simple Drawstring Shoe Bags. With Robert Kaufman’s Double Cloth Cotton, an amazing two-sided fabric that gives a nice contrasting pop at the top of the drawstring channel, these bags are perfectly designed for quick crafting and tidy packing!

If, like me, you’ve got a travelling dad (or maybe a grad who’s off on a new adventure) these Drawstring Shoe Bags are just the ticket. With just a half a yard of Double Cloth Cotton, 2 yards of Fettucia Ribbon and some thread, you can sew up this thoughtful gift in a matter of minutes! Happy Father’s Day! -Molly

Laura's Loop: Edged Linen Wrap

Not much is more meditative to me than crocheting along a hemmed edge. This is not due to expertise; I am a knitter first and foremost. In fact, this is the only type of crochet I know how to do (if you discount making a chain for a provision cast on). But, oh, the joy it brings…

With a single hook in one hand and the softest of yarns flowing through the fingers of my other hand, a rhythm takes over, and in no time, a simple hemmed rectangle has totally transformed into a gorgeous wrap, seemingly with no effort at all.

I outlined Robert Kaufman’s crisp Waterford Linen with Purl Soho’s merino beauty, Line Weight. Its brilliant color and graphic stitches highlight the natural hand and drape of the Waterford Linen, softening its edge with the wool’s subtle bloom.

This feminine, modern wrap continues to comfort and soothe me with each wear. I hope you’re inspired to whip one up for those cool summer nights to come. -Laura
