Laura's Loop: Bamboo Shell

Knitting in front of nail-biting soccer matches has its pitfalls. High tensions result in tight knitting. Jumping in celebration leads to dropped stitches. Mournful losses extinguish all desire to even pick up your needles. Oh, but when a game is good and you’re working in speedy, soft bamboo, progress really barrels along!

I did not initially envision this top to be quite so long, but before I knew it, I had breezed through 6 inches of seed stitch and 12 inches of stockinette, bidding farewell to the cropped top dancing in my head and saying hello to an elegant, hip-length version. Loving this length, but unable to quite let go of my original vision, my Bamboo Shell pattern gives instructions for both, plus an in-between waist-length style.

Back to the action… The fast-growing back of my sweater meant I needed to quickly work up and over the shoulders in order to knit a slightly shorter front. Translation: I had a lot of knitting ahead of me, but a lot of soccer too! I couldn’t have been happier.

Habu’s Dyed Bamboo is beyond delightful. It’s cool and quick, but what’s even better is its magical property of perfecting stitches. My knitting was far from steady during these past few weeks of exciting soccer action, and yet, my stitches have never looked so smooth and even.

Perhaps it is the Dyed Bamboo’s rich, saturated color and subtle sheen that highlights stitch patterns so well. Shoot, maybe it was the magic surrounding the World Cup. I know not! What I do know is that I’ll be knitting this Bamboo Shell again. Baseball anyone? -Laura

Whit's Knits: Seed Stitch Mittens and Hand Warmers

Many of us would agree, I think, that seed stitch is one of knitting's most refined patterns, as elegant as Grace Kelly and as classic as argyle. But what may go a little under appreciated is the feel of seed stitch.

A firm seed stitch has a wonderfully satisfying texture, like warm pebbles on a garden path or like crisp kernels on a sweet cob of corn. In the dark, I'd take a swatch of seed stitch over stockinette any day! And so I thought, why not put the feeling of seed stitch literally at my fingertips?

In Purl Soho's Alpaca Pure, seed stitch couldn't really feel any better. Soft and cozy, dense and hefty, Alpaca Pure seriously ups the pleasure ante on these Seed Stitch Mittens and Hand Warmers!

Finger-hugging mittens for the frigid cold and finger-liberating hand warmers for the milder months of early spring, both are super easy to make and both feel absolutely incredible! -Whitney

Amazing Seed Stitch Wrap

For this Amazing Seed Stitch Wrap we dipped our brush into eleven buckets of the most beautifully pigmented paints we could imagine. With wide brushstrokes we created great swathes of color, fields of undulating tones and extraordinary luminosity.

To swing this wrap around your shoulders is to envelop yourself in the pure beauty of knitting. It is our ode to the greatest natural fibers in the world, our homage to the joy of hand dyed color and to the fascination of a textural adventure.

Our wrap's journey starts with outrageous hot pink, travels through meadows of gentle roses to a soft creamy horizon, into the beguiling world of jade greens, through crystal clear Aegean blues, and finishes in the deep mystery of twilight. Along the way, you meet Jade Sapphire's extraordinary 8 Ply Cashmere, Anzula's For Better or Worsted,  and Blue Sky's cuddly soft Suri Merino.

Want to take the same trip? We've assembled all eleven of these skeins together in one easy place. Click right here to check it out!
