i was wondering what age you are making this for and how many rows up to you garter before you started the arm holes? i am 32 ridges(64 rows)up and trying to decide if i have gone to far or if i should go farther. the directions say take into account a deep armhole. this is the first article of clothing i have knit other than a scarf. your experience shared would be greatly appreciated. i am knitting for a 2 year old girl, wanting it to be bigger so she can grow into it for a couple years hopefully. let me know your thoughts thanks stephanie
Dear Stephanie, I am making the smallest size, which EZ states is for a "baby". I worked 40 ridges to the armholes, and it looks like the proper shape for a 1 to 1 1/2 year old. The great thing about garter stitch is that it is very elastic, so it will easily stretch in length if necessary. I'm not sure what you mean when you say that you want it to be "bigger". Bigger than the pattern suggests? The easiest way to make a larger sweater with this pattern is to use thicker yarn. Please let me know if you have further questions - I'm happy to help! Joelle
I am following the pattern for Tomten Jacket in EZ's Opinionated knitter. I am having a difficult time understanding the following: To give a good shape to the back, work a "short ridge", i.e., K 84, turn, K56, turn K to end of row. Repeat this every 10 ridges. Thank you for you help. Galina.
Hey, Joelle! Did you ever finish this project? I would love to see the final result, especially with the i-cord edging attached. I'm considering one myself.
cutest thing ever. I want to make everyone I have to look at wear these. this might be the piece that will actually inspire me to try something non-scarfy/hatty. Mwa!
How do you get a crisp edge when picking up the underarm stitches that are not casted off but held on a stitch holder as suggested by the pattern notes in order to avoid seaming. Do you knit the 2 together at the top of the sleeve or purl the bottom. how do you pick these stitches up. I have frogged this numerous times and am getting frustrated.
